Southpaw with an incredibly successful amateur career, winning gold medals in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics at featherweight and lightweight, respectively. In early 2023, he was ranked the world's seventh-best active boxer pound for pound. He stands at 5 feet 7 inches tall.

He turned pro in 2013, signing with Bob Arum's Top Rank. His boxing fame has helped him accrue over 2.2 million followers on his lomachenkovasiliy Instagram page.
