Alim Qasimov

About

Azeri musical singer who specializes in the folk music style of mugham. On his Instagram account alimqasimov_official he posts about his professional life and promotes traditional Azeri music to his more than 120,000 followers. 

Before Fame

His parents noticed his musical talent from a young age. His father built him his first instrument, a drum, out of a frame and a goat's stomach lining. In 1983 he won the national Jabbar Garyaghdioghlu Singing Competition.

Trivia

He was awarded the International Music Council-UNESCO Music Prize in 1999. In 2010, he was nominated for the United States National Public Radio's "50 great voices in recorded history" award. He sung for Azerbaijan in Eurovision Song Contest 2012. In 2012, he also campaigned to stop male violence against women.

Family Life

His father was an occasional singer with a good voice but never pursued a professional career in singing.
