World renowned explorer who entered the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest self-sustaining journey through Greenland.
He attended Lancing College and Christ Church in Oxford.
He was awarded in 1945 the Distinguished Service Award for his stint in the Army, and would later receive the Polar Medal for his exploration.
He married Rosalind Madden in 1952.
He and singer Beyonce both entered the Guinness Book of World Records.
