Attorney and politician who began serving on the New York State Senate in 2007. He had previously been elected as a Republican member of the New York City Council.
After graduating from St. John's University, he received his law degree from Fordham University.
Before becoming a politician, he served as Manhattan's Assistant District Attorney.
He was born in the Staten Island neighborhood of Great Kills. He married and raised three children.
As a New York State Senator, he negotiated with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg a deal that secured an additional police precinct on Staten Island.
