A Twentieth-century French author, she is best known for her Angelique books, which are set in the time of Louis XIV. She became known to her English readers as Sergeanne Golon.
She was interested in painting and writing in her youth. She published her first novel, The Country From Behind My Eyes, when she was just eighteen years old.
She traveled by bike from France to Spain during World War II.
She was born in Toulon, Var, France. Her husband, Serge Golon, died in 1972.
Her novel Angelique, Marquise of the Angels was made into a film starring Michele Mercier.
