American photographer known as much for his early-career work photographing people as for his later work chronicling nature and human establishments. His work has been featured in the J. Paul Getty and Guggenheim Museums.
He was a US Army medic in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969. His career took off in earnest in 1970s.
