From September of 2013 until April of 2014, this Italian citizen held the distinction of being the world's oldest man alive. He ultimately died at just under 112 years old.
During his early adulthood, he worked as both a miner and an Italian military man. Exposed to dangerous conditions throughout his working life, he was later employed by a tuberculosis clinic.
In the last years of his life, his only real health issues were the vision and hearing problems typical of younger elderly people.
He and his wife Rosa were parents to three daughters and four sons.
He and his contemporary and fellow Italian citizen, Emma Morano, both became famous supercentenarians; in 2014, Morano was still alive at 114 years old.
