Legendary Azerbaijani singer credited with the creation of modern Azerbaijani music, she has released more than a dozen successful albums since her career began in the late 1980s. She has also been an active television personality and has hosted the competition series Best Model of Azerbaijan.
She briefly studied at the Maarif Technicum of Arts before dropping out in 1986. Throughout the following decade she would enter and win a number of singing and talent contests before launching her debut album in 1997.
In 2005, she made her acting debut playing the title role in the stage musical Khari Bulbullar.
She was born the youngest in a family of four children. In 1989, she ran away with boyfriend Ibrahim Ibrahimov and a year later gave birth to their daughter Ilgara. After their divorce in '91, she married Rza Guliyev.
Her 2013 single "Coffee from Colombia" featured an appearance by American rapper Snoop Dogg.
