Before fame
He made his first-class debut for Tamil Nadu during the 2011-12 season after coming up through Tamil Nadu age group cricket. His big break came during India's 2012 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup run. He joined Chennai Super Kings for IPL 2013 and was also part of the Rising Pune Supergiant squad.
Trivia
He scored his first career double century for South Zone in the 2013 Duleep Trophy. He captained Tamil Nadu in the 2022 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He moved from Tamil Nadu to Kerala for domestic cricket ahead of the 2024-25 season after more than a decade with Tamil Nadu.

His twin brother Baba Indrajith is also a professional cricketer. He and Baba Indrajith were born 12 minutes apart.
