Cowboy poet whose best-known works include Horseshoes, Cowsocks, and Duckfeet; Legacy of the Rodeo Man; and The Buckskin Mare. He also had a career as a veterinarian for farm and ranch animals.
He attended New Mexico State University and Colorado State University.
He wrote a weekly newspaper column called "On the Edge of Common Sense."
Born in New Mexico, he eventually settled in Arizona with his wife, Cindy Lou Black.
He has often been compared to Will Rogers.
