Prior to being drafted, he played college basketball at Creighton University and South Dakota State University. While at South Dakota State University, he was once named the Summit League Player of the Year and he was also a two-time member of the first team All-Summit League.

He was a four-sport athlete while at Aurora High School in Aurora, Nebraska. Shortly after graduating, he then enrolled into South Dakota State University as a freshman in 2019.
