He was very inspired after seeing the documentary Black Fish, so one of his songs is titled "Tilikum" after the whale featured in the film. Jimmy Eat World's album Bleed American is one of his most favorite albums of all time.

He was born in York, England to parents with South African and Australian heritage. He split his time between being in England and Australia. His father died from cancer in the year 2013. He has one sister.
