A silver medalist at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea, this champion 400-meter sprinter won gold at the 1983 World Championships in Helsinki, Finland, as well as at the 1982 Central American and Caribbean Games and Commonwealth Games.
In his first international competition -- the 1978 Commonwealth Games -- he assisted his Jamaican national team in securing a silver medal.
In 1981, 1982, and 1983, he was designated Jamaica's Sportsperson of the Year.
He spent his youth in Spanish Town, Jamaica.
He and fellow Jamaican sprinter Michael Blackwood both won gold in 4x400m relay events at the World Championships.
