Affiliated with the Indian National Congress party, this twentieth-century politician served in the Lok Sabha (lower house of the Indian Parliament) from 1984 until 1989, as a representative of the Pilibhit Constituency. During the early 1980s, he had served as Minister of Agriculture for the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
He studied medicine at Ayurved College, Pilibhit. During his university years, he played on his school's hockey and football teams.
During the period of the Sino-Indian War, he trained members of the general public in the use of weapons. Throughout his political career, he also reached out to the public by leading workshops on healthcare-related topics.
In 1956, he married Smt Gayatri Devi; the union produced one daughter and two sons.
While Singh served as a local Minister of Agriculture, Sharad Pawar held this position on the Indian national level.
