Former college football player who went on to coach at the University of Michigan and University of Colorado.
He earned a B.A. in education in 1962 from the University of Missouri.
As a coach, he won three consecutive Big Eight Conference titles at University of Colorado.
In 1962, he became an assistant coach at the University of Michigan under his older brother Tom.
In 1989, he won the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year award, named after the Grambling head coach.
