About

Famous for his role in the development of promotional art for films, this illustrator and commercial artist designed the posters for such 1960s movie musicals as West Side Story and My Fair Lady and went on to create artwork for Apocalypse Now and the James Bond feature The Spy Who Loved Me.

Before Fame

After earning a bachelor's degree in geology from Wichita State University and subsequently fighting in the Korean War, he trained at Los Angeles' Art Center College of Design.

Trivia

He won numerous Society of Illustrators medals, as well as the Artists Guild of New York's 1961 Artist of the Year honor.

Family Life

Born in Colorado and raised in Kansas, he later settled in New York City.

He and his contemporary and fellow artist, Jack Davis, both designed United States postage stamps.
