Before fame
He began curling when he was 7 years old after his father saw a newspaper advertisement for a junior curling club and took his children to try the sport. He progressed through Scotland's junior curling system and eventually achieved international success as a junior including winning World Junior Championship gold in 2013. He started competing regularly on the World Curling Tour and Grand Slam of Curling in the mid-2010s. He won Olympic silver with Team Great Britain at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
