Actress who became widely popular in the 1950s for roles in theatre and television, including her role as Josephine Barry in the film Anne of Green Gables and her role on Broadway in Love and Libel.
She was born in Toronto and studied at the University of Toronto's Hart House before making her professional stage debut in Anton Chekhov's Three Sisters.
Her final appearance on stage was in February 2006 in the production of Our Town.
She was married to actor Gordon Pinsent from 1962 until her death in 2007 and they had one daughter, actress Leah Pinsent.
She appeared in many productions of Russian playwright Anton Chekhov's work, including Three Sisters and Uncle Vanya at the Stratford Festival.
