Her parents are José María Garnica Rodríguez and Josefina Gallo Esquivel. She and Jeb met when they were still teenagers. They married on February 23, 1974. Their children are George Prescott, Noelle Lucila and John Ellis.
Her sister-in-law, Laura Bush, has also had a career as a political wife.
