American television personality who served as an anchor for CBS News before becoming the host of Cats 101 and Dogs 101 on Animal Planet. She was crowned the winner of the Miss America in 1993, when she was 23 years old.
She grew up in Jonesboro, Arkansas and was the runner-up in the Miss Arkansas pageant in 1988 before being being named Miss Missouri the next year.
She has a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine and was a spokeswoman for Purina.
She has an older sister named Suzette Turner, who married famed pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell.
She and Teresa Scanlan are both former Miss America winners.
