Before Fame
He attended Booker T. Washington High School and had an internship working at KOTV as a high school student. He received his bachelor's degree from Jackson State University. He started his broadcasting career while working on his master's degree at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism after he covered the September 11 attacks. He began his first reporting job at CBS affiliate WJTV in 2002.

He received the "Thurgood Marshall Prestige Award" for community service in 2009. He is passionate about volunteering and has volunteered for Morgan has volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the American Cancer Society, and the NAACP. He has taught broadcast journalism classes at several different universities, including his alma mater Jackson State University.
