Best remembered as the host of the Australian Nine Network's Don Lane Show, this Logie Award-winning, New York-born talk show host and television basketball and football commentator had a second career as a cabaret singer and comedian.

Before Fame

After attending Kalamazoo College (in Michigan) on an athletic scholarship, he entered the United States Army and formed a comedy act that was popular on the military entertainment circuit and later featured on The Ed Sullivan Show.

Trivia

His autobiography, Never Argue with a Mug, was published in 2007.

Family Life

Born Morton Donald Isaacson, he grew up in the Bronx in a family of both Catholic and Jewish heritage. With his talent manager and second wife, Jayne Ambrose, he raised a son named P.J.

He took on the stage name of Don Lane in honor of vocalist, songwriter, and actor Frankie Laine.
