American LGBT rights activist and a technology manager at IBM. She is known for her work in the Supreme Court case of United States v. Windsor, which was considered a landmark legal victory for the same-sex marriage movement in the United States. 

Before Fame

She received her bachelor's degree from Temple University in 1950. In 1955, she began pursuing a master's degree in mathematics, which she obtained from New York University in 1957. She fell in love with a fellow classmate at Temple University. Although she would marry Saul Windsor, they later divorced due to her love for women. 

Trivia

She has received a variety of awards for her work as an activist including the Susan B. Anthony Award in February of 2012 as well as the New York City Council Award in June of 2011. 

Family Life

She was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to James and Celia Schlain. She would go on to marry Judith Kasen in 2016.
