Post-Impressionist painter and graphic artist who co-founded the Medulic Society. He was named a corresponding member of the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts in 1949.
He studied briefly at the Academy of Arts in Venice. He opted instead to focus the entirety of his time on painting Venice's interiors, canals, lagoons, and motifs, mainly centered on Chioggia.
He supported an independent Croatia and a split from Austria-Hungary. This political message was also conveyed in the works produced by his Medulic Society.
He grew up as the oldest child in his family and was born in a stone cottage on Christmas Eve.
He co-founded the Medulic Society with Ivan Mestrovic.
