Politician and former police officer known for serving as the 110th Mayor of New York City in 2022 after previously serving as Brooklyn Borough President from 2014 to 2021 and as a New York State Senator from 2007 to 2013.

Before fame

He was beaten by police officers as a teenager which was an event that later influenced his decision to join law enforcement. He joined the New York City Police Department in 1984 and served for over 20 years. He rose through the ranks of the NYPD and eventually became a police captain. He was elected to the New York State Senate in 2006 and took office in 2007 representing parts of Brooklyn. He served in the State Senate until 2013. He was elected Brooklyn Borough President in 2013 and began serving in 2014. He was re-elected as Brooklyn Borough President and held the office until 2021. He announced his candidacy for mayor of New York City in November 2020. He won the Democratic primary in July 2021 after a ranked-choice voting count. He won the New York City mayoral election in November 2021 and took office in January 2022.

He was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in 2016 and made lifestyle changes to reverse it. He published a book in 2020 titled Healthy at Last which focuses on his health journey and dietary changes. He was sworn in as mayor at Times Square shortly after midnight on New Year's Day,

Family life

His full name is Eric Leroy Adams. He grew up in New York City in a working-class household and experienced poverty during his childhood. He is one of six siblings and was raised primarily by his mother. He has a son named Jordan Coleman.
