Farhat Hashmi

Pakistani Canadian Islamic scholar, educator, and author known for being the founder of the Al-Huda International Welfare Foundation and for pioneering accessible Islamic education for women through classes, digital lessons, and global study circles. She is also known for her Instagram page, where she shares short reminders, dua compilations, and Hadith lessons with over 190,000 followers.

Before Fame

She attended Sargodha Degree College and then earned her Master's in Arabic from the University of the Punjab in 1982. She began her academic career as a lecturer at the International Islamic University Islamabad teaching Qur'an and Hadith-related subjects. She moved to Scotland and completed her PhD at the University of Glasgow in 1990. She established Al-Huda International in 1994 to provide women's Islamic education.

Trivia

She became one of the first Pakistani women with a PhD in Hadith Sciences. She is fluent in Urdu, Arabic, and English. Her lessons were once distributed on cassette tapes and then on CDs before becoming available through digital platforms. She has been regularly featured in the annual publication The Muslim 500.

Family Life

She was born in Sargodha, Punjab, Pakistan. She was born into a scholarly family and her father, Abdur Rehman Hashmi, was a well-known Islamic scholar. She is married to Dr. Idrees Zubair, and they have four children together. She relocated with her family to Mississauga, Ontario, Canada in the early 2000s.
