Brazilian former international swimmer. In 1993, he and Gustavo Borges were part of a foursome that broke the world record in the 4 x 100-meter freestyle. In 1998, he finished the year ranked number 1, ahead of 100-meter freestyle record-holder Alexander Popov. His 50-meter freestyle world record would last until fellow Brazilian César Cielo broke it in 2007.
