Former NBA guard who was named head coach of the Chicago Bulls in 2015. He previously served as coach of the Iowa State Cyclones, leading the team to two Big 12 Tournament Championships and to the NCAA Tournament four straight years from 2012 to 2015, including a 2014 Sweet Sixteen appearance. He was also named Big 12 Coach of the Year in 2012.
At Ames High School in Iowa, he played quarterback for the school's football team and captained the school's basketball team. He then went on to play four years of college basketball at Iowa State.
He played professionally for the Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, and Minnesota Timberwolves, joining the latter as VP of Basketball Operations after his retirement.
He was born in Lincoln, Nebraska. He married Carol Hoiberg and he has four children named Paige, Jack, Sam and Charlie.
He coached versatile forward Georges Niang at Iowa State.
