Better known as Chuck, McDaniel is a punk rock musician who is best known as a founding member and bass player for band Black Flag. He was also known as the co-owner of SST Records until the 1990s.

Before Fame

With a passion for music at a young age, he helped form the band Black Flag in the late 1970's. After playing together frequently, they released their debut EP Nervous Breakdown in 1979. He continued playing with the band in 1983 and served as their manager. He would go on to work on several other projects including Würm, the SST supergroup October Faction, and eventually formed his own band SWA in 1985 with Merrill Ward of Overkill.

On the story of his name change to Chuck, he stated that it originated from a Zippo lighter with "Chuck the Duke" inscribed on it that he found while searching for a new name.
