WWII era illustrator and cartoonist whose comic strips and comic books have frequently depicted airplanes and famous aviators.
He sold his illustrations to pulp magazines while he was still in his teens. Later, during the World War II era, he served as an aircraft mechanic in South Carolina.
He worked for Fiction House, EC Comics, DC Comics, and Marvel Comics and also created 'Death of an Ace' (1977) and other, stand-alone paintings of World War I aviation battles.
He was born in Harwood, Pennsylvania and died at age 81 in Long Island.
He illustrated a comic-based biography of baseball legend Ty Cobb during the 1990s.
