King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland who reigned from August 1, 1714 to June 11, 1727. He was also the head of the Electorate of Hanover from January 23, 1698 until his death in June 1727. His reign was characterized by a diminishing monarchy wherein Great Britain began to operate under a modern cabinet government ruled by a prime minister.

He inherited the throne from his mother, Sophia of the Palatinate, the granddaughter of King James I, and his cousin, Anne, Queen of Great Britain.
Trivia
He fought against the French during the War of the Spanish Succession.
Family Life
He married his cousin Sophia Dorothea of Celle in 1692. They had two children. His father was Ernest Augustus, Elector of Hanover.
