An Italian Renaissance architect, painter, and author, he is best known for his 1550 biographical work, Lives of the Most Eminent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects. He is also known for designing an octagonal dome for Pistoia, Italy's Basilica of Our Lady of Humility.
He befriended Michelangelo while studying in Florence.
