He played football at Chaffey College, where he earned NJCAA All-American honors as a tight end. He later transferred to the University of Southern California but struggled with injuries that limited his playing time. After going undrafted in the NFL, he joined the practice squads of the Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills.
