British poet known for such collections as Chambers of Imagery and A Vision of Giorgione. Also a verse dramatist, he wrote The Crier by Night, Britain's Daughter, and many other plays.
He grew up in Yorkshire as the only child of Alfred and Maria Bottomley. At the age of seven, he began suffering from tuberculosis.
He was an avid art collector and eventually donated his six hundred paintings to the Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery.
He married Emily Burton in 1905.
