American lawyer who served as White House Counsel during the administration of Barack Obama. He resigned in 2010 and returned to private practice.
He graduated from Harvard University and attended Yale Law School, obtaining his J.D. in 1972.
He became known for representing a number of high profile clients, including Senator Ted Kennedy and President Bill Clinton during his impeachment trial.
He married graphic designer Derry Noyes, with whom he had five children.
