He received his formal chef qualifications in 1983 from the Professional School in Passau. After working as a Sous Chef at restaurants throughout Germany, he eventually settled in Rome where he worked as head chef at La Pergola.
He has earned several awards as a chef including 3 Michelin Stars for his work at La Pergola and the Golden Medal of the Artists Foyer Award from La Sapienza Rome University
