Canadian-born American chemist who won the Nobel Prize in that field in 1983 for his research into the mechanisms of electron-transfer reactions. His book, Electron Transfer Reactions of Complex Ions in Solution, was published in 1970.
He obtained a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1940.
He was the first Canadian-born chemist to win the Nobel Prize.
He had three children with his wife Mary.
President Jimmy Carter. presented him with the 1976 President's National Medal of Science.
