About

Author, writer, and motivational speaker who survived the Rwandan genocide. She wrote books titled Left to Tell: Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust and Led by Faith: Rising from the ashes of the Rwandan Holocaust. Her story was also told in the 2006 documentary short titled The Diary of Immaculée.

She was raised in a small village in Rwanda.

Trivia

She studied electrical and mechanical engineering at the National University of Rwanda. In April of 1994, there was civil unrest in Rwanda and her father told her to leave her home and go to a local pastor's house. She hid there for 91 days.

Family Life

Her parents and two brothers were killed during the Rwandan genocide. She and her brother Aimable were her family's only survivors. In the year 1998, she married Bryan Black.
