Known for her works of Christianity-themed historical fiction, this Canadian novelist became famous for her Love Comes Softly, Prairie Legacy, and Seasons of the Heart series. Between 1981 and 2011, she penned nearly eighty inspirational books.
More than twenty years after earning a degree from Mountain View Bible College in Alberta, Canada, she found a publisher for her debut novel, Love Comes Softly.
She was the 1992 recipient of the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association's President's Award.
She grew up on the western Canadian prairie as the daughter of Amy Ruggles Steeves and farmer Fred Steeves. In 1957, she married Edward Oke; the couple went on to raise four children.
She and American author Donita K. Paul both wrote works of Christian fiction.
