Centre back commonly known simply as "Miranda" who has won league titled with clubs like Coritiba, São Paulo and Atlético Madrid. He was a member of the Brazilian squad that won the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2009.
He came up through Coritiba's youth system before making his professional debut with the club in 2004.
He was named to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A Team of the Year four straight seasons from 2007 to 2010 while playing for São Paulo.
His parents are João Miranda and Maria Miranda de Souza. He has sons.
He has played alongside Filipe Luis on the Brazilian national team.
