J.J. McCarthy

About

Football player who became a starting quarterback for the University of Michigan in 2022. After leading Nazareth Academy to the state title game in 2019, he was Illinois' Player of the Year, and then Florida's Football Player of the Year in 2020. He helped lead Michigan to a national title and a 15-0 record during his third season with the program. They won the College Football Playoff National Championship in January 2024.

Before Fame

He played hockey until early high school. He attended Nazareth Academy until transferring to IMG Academy in 2020. 

Trivia

Iowa State University offered him a scholarship before he even started his freshman year of high school. His football fame has led him to amass more than 500,000 followers on his jjmccarthy Instagram account. 

Family Life

He was born and raised in La Grange Park, Illinois. His mother was a competitive figure skater. He got engaged to his long-term girlfriend Katya Kuropas in January 2024.

He plays for head coach Jim Harbaugh. Other Michigan Wolverines Harbaugh coached who are now playing in the NFL include Hassan Haskins, Devin Bush Jr., and Aidan Hutchinson.
