American journalist who is known for her work as a national political correspondent for The Washington Post. She is also known for having written for Time Magazine and has appeared as a analyst on several programs including Washington Week, PBS News Hour, and Fox News.
She attended the University of Texas at Austin where she earned her BA in Journalism. She then started her career writing for the Daily Texan before earning her MBA from Harvard Business School. She then started working for the Los Angeles Times covering the US Congress and other general assignments. She joined Time in 1994 and later The Washington Post in 2010.
She has won several awards for her work in journalism including the Gerald Loeb Award for distinguished business and financial journalism in 1982 for her work with the Los Angeles Times.
She was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas and married Paul Richter. Together they have two children.
She is known for having written the Man of the Year profile for Newt Gingrich in 1995.
