She moved to Arizona and made her Arizona debut at KPNX (12 News) in Phoenix as a weekend weather anchor before becoming an evening anchor. She then joined Fox 10 News in 1999 where she would work until she left journalism in March 2021. She launched her political career officially in June 2021 when she filed to run for Governor of Arizona.

She grew up in the Midwest as the youngest of nine children, raised in Iowa after her family moved from Illinois. She married Jeff Halperin in September 1998, and they have two children together.
