After running as an independent candidate with support from the Law and Justice party, he received nearly 51% of the vote and assumed office on August 6, 2025. Before assuming office, he led the Institute of National Remembrance beginning in 2021, following his tenure as director of the Museum of the Second World War from 2017 to 2021.

He obtained a master's degree in history and a PhD in humanities from the University of Gdansk. Family Life
His father Ryszard Nawrocki was a factory worker and member of the Solidarity movement. His mother, Elzbieta Nawrocka, worked as a bookbinder. He has a younger sister named Nina who has worked as a pastry cook in Kraków. He and his wife Marta, who has been employed by the National Revenue Administration, share a son named Antoni and a daughter named Katarzyna. Together, they have also raised a son named Daniel from Marta's previous relationship.
