She grew up in Beech Hill, Wigan, Greater Manchester. She got her start in the news business reporting for the Wigan Evening Post and Chronicle at age 17.
Trivia
In 2007 she appeared on the second season of the ITV reality show Dancing On Ice. She donated her earnings from the show to the MacMillan Cancer Care charity in honor of her mother, who passed away from breast cancer.
