Before fame
She started playing the trumpet when she was 7 years old and joined jazz band in sixth grade after her middle school band director introduced her to jazz. She began studying jazz trumpet at the Manhattan School of Music in 2020 and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 2024. She began posting content on TikTok in January 2021 and formed the Kellin Hanas Quintet in 2022.
Trivia
She won the 2024 Laurie Frink Career Grant and placed first in the jazz division of the 2024 ITG Ryan Anthony Memorial Trumpet Competition. She was named a 2024 DownBeat Magazine Undergraduate College Outstanding Soloist. She has held the trumpet chair for Heathers: The Musical in New York City at New World Stages.
Family life
Her grandmother was a singer and choir director. Her grandmother helped encourage her family to let her pursue an instrument when she was young.
