Freelance journalist who was known for her work for a variety of publications including the New York Times, Vice, and Time Magazine.
She was a graduate of the Paris-Sorbonne University, where she studied Journalism. She then attended the London School of Economics as well as Columbia University in New York City.
After setting out to travel aboard an experimental submarine designed by aerospace engineer Peter Madsen, she went missing just outside of Copenhagen. Authorities later found her body in the water outside the Copenhagen harbor 11 days after she boarded.
She was first reported missing by her then boyfriend. Since her death, her mother Ingrid has posted condolences to a variety of social media platforms.
As a journalist who experienced first person accounts of stories she intended to write as a freelance reporter, she can be compared to other New Journalism writers including Tom Wolfe, Hunter S. Thompson, and Joan Didion.
