Avant-garde composer known for using electronic instruments and computers in his work. He co-founded and edited "Source: Music of the Avant Garde," the avant-garde music periodical.
He received his Master's degree in music from the University of North Texas College in 1952. He then attended Mills College and the University of California, Berkeley.
He completed "Universe Symphony," legendary composer Charles Ives' unfinished work.
He relocated to Denton, Texas, with his wife Edna.
His work "John Explain" used a recording of an interview with John Cage.
