After growing up in New York City in Depression-era destitution, he studied under the G.I. Bill at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

He was the 1997 recipient of the Golden Boot Award, an honor given to actors in the western television and film genres.

Family Life

His marriage to fellow character actor Lynn Cartwright resulted in a daughter named Tara.

Associated With

A screenwriter and western-themed novelist as well as an actor, he penned the screenplay for the 1958 film The Crybaby Killer. The movie starred a young and then-undiscovered Jack Nicholson.
