Her brand centers on luxurious, protective products designed to care for both hair and skin, all while offering an experience reminiscent of wearing "jewelry for the hair." 

Before fame

Prior to her entrepreneurial endeavors, she led a successful career as an orthodontist. She developed a love of hair care and beauty early in childhood and went on to draw inspiration for her brand from time-tested family rituals of wet-setting hair, passed down from her mother and grandmother.

In 2025, she shared behind-the-scenes looks at her attendance to Cartier's "Into the Wild" showcase at Art Basel Miami, celebrating the house's Panthère de Cartier collection. That same year, Sarasota Magazine honored her dedication to community service and educational advancement - through initiatives like the Grain Scholars Program - by naming her the winner of its Unity Award. 

Family life

Her French Barrelettes collections are named after women in her family, including Chelsea, Carolyn, and Ellen. At the time of her brand's launch, she and her husband - telecommunications entrepreneur David Grain - had been married for over 30 years. Together, they share two children including a daughter named Chelsea, whose 2023 wedding to basketball coach Amile Jefferson was featured in Vogue Magazine.
